Blue Beyond Consulting

Case Study

Crafting a Remote-First Narrative for a Global Tech Leader

Client

A global cloud communications company with $5 billion in revenue.

What We Did

Developed a strategic narrative to articulate the next chapter of their remote-first model and developed strategies and tools for effective people leadership in a remote setting.

Outcome

Employees who are invested in the success of their remote-first model and people managers who are empowered and equipped to lead in this environment.

THE SITUATION

In response to rapid growth and the global pandemic, company leaders recognized the benefit to transition to an all-remote workforce. Blue Beyond Consulting was enlisted to develop the messaging and engagement plan around their refreshed remote-first model in a way that inspired employees and supported leaders in a remote-first setting.

WHAT WE DID

To articulate the next chapter of the remote work initiative we collaborated with the company’s Culture and Organizational Effectiveness, and Communications teams to:

  • Build a strategic narrative centered on three core pillars of their remote-first model: 1) connection, 2) flexibility, and 3) impact.
  • Integrate the narrative with OKRs to ensure alignment with the company’s operational goals and key results (OKRs).
  • Prioritize inclusion and belonging principles for the remote work strategic narrative launch.

THE APPROACH TO REMOTE WORK

Our client’s approach to remote work reshapes traditional workspaces into dynamic, digital-first environments, allowing the company to:

  • Recruit and retain top-tier global talent without geographic limits.
  • Minimize physical office reliance and reallocate resources to enhance digital workspaces, embodying the company’s culture of innovation.
  • Create equitable access to career development for all employees, improve work-life balance, and increase productivity, creativity, and satisfaction.

SUPPORTING A REMOTE-FIRST CULTURE FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS

It was critical that employees and managers understood that the move to a remote-first culture was a strategic one to support both the business and the people.

Over three months, we:

  • Crafted a remote work narrative and messaging strategy that is human, compelling, and visual.
  • Conducted cross-functional working sessions to ensure enhancement of the employee experience and support broad strategic objectives.
  • Designed “Offsite in a Box” – a guide that gives managers the instructions, guidance, and tools to organize, build, and lead memorable and effective team offsites.

OUTCOME

Blue Beyond helped the company express and operationalize remote work principles across the organization.

Managers are now equipped to lead more effectively in a remote environment, ensuring productivity and high employee satisfaction. Even in a remote-first environment, managers are encouraged to gather teams together and leverage an easy-to-use “Offsite in a Box” guide to enable meaningful engagement and dialogue. In Q4 2023, 100% of employee hubs held an in-person event, and 49 teams hosted an offsite.

Today, Blue Beyond and the company continue to redefine industry standards by amplifying the remote work program, maintaining the company’s stance as a remote-first leader, energizing and uniting employees, recruiting top tier talent, and deepening employees’ connection and impact.
