“Happiness is not pleasure.
It is the joy you feel when moving towards your potential.”
— Shawn Achor
Internationally renowned researcher, Shawn Achor, bridges the gap between happiness and success outcomes. He captivated audience members at this year’s Watermark Conference with his insights on how to bring the science of happiness to our individual lives.
Greater Happiness Dramatically Increases Success Outcomes
During his talk, Shawn Achor reassured the audience that happiness is not a quick, instantaneous, experience nor it is manic joy or unrestrained optimism. Rather happiness is something that we can consciously work on, each day, in order to improve our own and others’ experiences. The result: greater productivity, better relationships, and more success in everything we do.
In order to bring the science of happiness to life, we can all begin by adopting six simple, positive changes into our daily lives. In his book, The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor encourages people to start with gratitude. Thinking, writing or speaking about 3-5 daily things we are grateful for will help us make a significant mental shift. We don’t need a special room or to create a unique atmosphere in order to do this. We can simply use the time when brushing our teeth or during our commute to focus on what we are grateful for and over time, we will begin to develop our happiness muscle that will help us succeed and fortify us when things inevitably do not go as planned.
At Blue Beyond Consulting, we use Shawn Achor’s happiness research to build a culture of gratitude within our team and to carry that mindset into every engagement with our clients. We are excited to share this infographic we created from Shawn’s six talking points from his Watermark presentation. Small, positive changes can make a significant difference to our lives and those around us and best of all, increase success outcomes.
