A Fortune 500 technology giant, striving to enable economic opportunity around the world by providing a global online marketplace, wanted to infuse a spirit of innovation and forward momentum while redefining their culture and building upon their twenty years of institutional experience. On a macro level, this meant recommitting to the culture they aimed to create, as well as to the talented people across the company who create that culture.
Blue Beyond engaged to support a series of key cultural transformations surrounding employee onboarding and talent management, and partnered with the client’s internal team to manage this transformation with a specific focus on the key players within the onboarding process – the hiring managers and the new employees.
During this engagement, our areas of focus included:
In order to refresh the current onboarding process and set up new employees for immediate success, given their individual needs as people, Blue Beyond created a manager-enablement project.
- Redefined onboarding as a 90-day process in which a manager must work closely with the new employee to help them become productive, integrate into the team, and understand how their work fits into the larger context of the company’s mission
- Established universal trainings, resources and guidelines for managers to ensure globally consistent experiences for all new hires across the company
New Employee Engagement
In keeping with the idea of a universal implementation of onboarding, Blue Beyond helped the client team envision and execute two new programs for new employees.
- An interactive, self-paced online orientation that new employees complete within their first week to learn more about the history, purpose, and vision of the company
- An immersive Onboarding Summit where all new employees who have joined the company within the last three months come together for a multi-day series of conversations with senior leaders and customers – in addition to hands-on experience with the products.
By pairing swift action with long-term thinking, Blue Beyond was able to provide both immediate improvement and ongoing, self-sustaining success to a client in the midst of pivotal culture transformation. Narrowing the gap between what new employees need and what managers are equipped to provide has proven to be a key factor in promoting new employee satisfaction and engagement, which have been steadily rising since these initiatives were implemented.
